According to a local authority in eastern Congo, rebels with ties to extremist organisations assaulted villages over the weekend, destroying vehicles and stealing goods, murdering at least eleven people.
The attacks took place on Saturday, and the mayor verified them on Sunday.
These insurgents have been active for a while in the border area close to Uganda.
Nearly 200 people have died in the region so far this year, according to a recent UN report.
According to the mayor, Ngongo Mayanga, eleven bodies were found in one region in the commune of Mulekera, spread across four separate locations.
Mulekera is in the province of North Kivu, close to Beni town.
For decades, the Eastern Congo has been plagued by conflict as over 120 armed groups vie for control of vital mineral resources, and some try to protect their communities.
According to U.N, the violence has made over 7 million people to flee from their homes.
