One person has died, three others injured after a perimeter wall in Ruaka, Kiambu County collapsed on Monday morning.
Tenants in rental houses have been urged to stay away from their homes after the incident occasioned by heavy rains.
Kiambu governor Kimani Wamatangi issued an order directing all tenants in the affected plot to relocate until the department could provide an occupational certificate attesting to the building’s safety.
He also said a multi-agency team will investigate the matter to assure residents of their safety.
“No one will live in these houses until we complete investigations and approve that the houses are safe for people to live in them. We have given you two hours to take important items your houses. We will then seal the houses,” Wamatangi said.
The heavy prolonged rains have affected many areas in Kenya, with heavy floods wrecking havoc in Nairobi and neighbouring Kiambu and Machakos Counties.
