A fight between opposing political parties at a funeral service in Rapogi Village, Migori County has left two people injured including a nine-year-old boy.
The victims were caught up in the mayhem as rival factions—one supporting Uriri MP Mark Nyamita and the other siding with Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko—engaged in violent conflict.
As the air was filled with gunfire, guests started to run for their lives.
The conflict transformed the funeral ceremony into a battlefield, fueled by a long-standing rivalry between the two groups.
Governor Ayacko called the event unpleasant and charged the MP with inciting violence in his district.
Nyamita responded by accusing the governor of inciting violence in order to hide his own inadequacies.
“We condemn those shameless politicians who think that politics should be that of violence and that the police are part of their local goons and that they will intimidate anybody. We are not intimidated by anybody we are only intimidated by the fact that we are to be orderly people,” Governor Ayacko said.
“Because we were annoyed we walked out, in walking out they started shooting aimlessly, the security team of the governor not only shot at us but they shot at the police vehicle almost injuring a police officer the same security shot at our team injured one of our staff,”Nyamita said.
