The Meteorological Department stated on Monday that rain is expected to persist for a number of days this week, with severe thunderstorms possibly occurring in several regions of the nation.
According to the department’s forecast for the week of May 7–May 13, there will be significant rainfall in the early part of the week in the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, and the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley.
On the other hand, it stated that the countrywide rainfall intensity is expected to decrease in the latter part of the week.
Early in the week, morning showers are predicted to fall over a few locations in the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Highlands West of the Rift Valley.
“Afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms are expected over several places during the first half of the forecast period reducing to a few places thereafter,” said the Meteorological Services Director, David Gikungu.
In the North-western Kenya region, morning rains, afternoon and night showers, and thunderstorms are expected over a few places early in the week, followed by sunny intervals in the other half.
Meanwhile, the Highlands East of the Rift Valley will experience morning rains over a few places during the first half of the week.
Afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms are expected over several places during the first half of the week, reducing to only a few places thereafter.
Floods has led to 228 deaths and 212,630 people displaced.
