Athletes from Kenya who won medals at the Paris 2024 Olympics were awarded cash prizes from the government, as announced by President William Ruto.
President Ruto praised the team for great achievement for making Kenya proud during global competition.
Ruto hosted the team at Eldoret State Lodge on Thursday,
Gold medallists Beatrice Chebet (10,000 and 5,000 metres), Faith Kipyegon (1500 metres), and Emmanuel Wanyonyi (800 metres) received Ksh.3 million.

Faith Kipyegon and Ronald Kwemoi were also awarded Ksh.2 million for winning silver in the 5,000-meter track race.
Bronze medallists Mary Moraa (800m), Abraham Kibiwott (Steeplechase), Faith Cherotich (Steeplechase), Benson Kipruto (marathon), and Hellen Obiri (marathon) each received Ksh.1 million.
Kenya was ranked 17th among countries with the most Olympic medals, and first in Africa.
President Ruto stated that his administration will work to strengthen facilities for athlete wellness and improve the country’s performance in the future.
“I am looking forward to expanding the sports infrastructure, and I want to encourage not only the government, but also the private sector,” he stated.
