The Ministry of Health has announced and confirmed the fourth case of Mpox in the country
The case was confirmed in Nakuru County, and follows earlier detections in Taita Taveta, Busia and Nairobi counties.
Public Health and Professional Standards Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni announced on Saturday that so far, the ministry has tested a total of 90 samples for Mpox, with two still under analysis.
She however noted that 30 contacts are under follow-up in Busia, Mombasa, Nairobi, and Nakuru.
The ministry said the ongoing active surveillance and screening of travellers at the country’s designated Ports of Entry has in the last 24 hours screened 16,533 people.
The total number of screens at all 26 Ports of Entry now stands at 582,000 individuals.
The announcement comes even as Director General for Health Dr Patrick Amoth on Friday highlighted that the ministry is actively monitoring the situation and has ramped up efforts to control the spread of the disease.
He urged the public to remain calm, assuring that the healthcare system is fully equipped to manage the disease.
“We wish to reassure the public that our healthcare facilities are fully prepared to diagnose and manage this disease and there is no need to panic… We remain dedicated to safeguarding the health and well-being of all citizens and we will continue implementing comprehensive response measures,” said Dr. Amoth in a statement to newsrooms.
