An athlete collapsed and died after competing in a scholarship trial at Kipchoge Stadium in Uasin Gishu County.
According to a police report, Joseph Hussein Njagi completed the 3,000-metre race at around midday and collapsed at the finish line.
Athletics officials rushed the 20-year-old to Uasin Gishu District Hospital to receive medical treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The officials alerted police officers from Eldoret Police Station who rushed to the hospital.
The officers took the body to Moi Teaching And Referral Hospital morgue pending post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
Njagi’s demise adds to the list of Kenyan athletes whose nascent careers were tragically cut short.
