Manchester United progressed to the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup with a convincing 5-2 win over Leicester City at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.
Under Ruud van Nistelrooy’s stewardship for the very first time, United got the better of their Premier League counterparts in what was a pulsating cup tie.
United found themselves 4-2 up at half-time, courtesy of two goals from Casemiro and one apiece from Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes. Leicester twice got themselves on the scoresheet through efforts from Bilal El Khannouss and Conor Coady.
United put the contest to bed once and for all just before the hour mark through a second from Fernandes, who smashed the ball home from close range after rounding Leicester goalkeeper Danny Ward.
Following their 7-0 win over Barnsley in round three, United have now scored 12 goals in the Carabao Cup this evening on route to the last eight of the competition.
