Harambee Stars coach Engin Firat has terminated his contract, just four days after the election of new Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Hussein Mohammed.
His resignation has been confirmed by Hussein Wednesday afternoon, in a press briefing at the federation headquarters in Kasarani – Nairobi.
Hussein said the federation has accepted Firat’s resignation, and are in the process of finding his replacement.
“Harambee Stars coach has terminated his contract with the federation and we will be looking forward for new alternatives. The next coach will be chosen according to their performance, the nationality of the coach notwithstanding,” revealed Hussein.
Engin Firat signed his contract on September 2021, a contract which was supposed to run until January 2026.
“I argue everyone to come together so as to make football great again in the country. We have to do this, especially with our national team, we have to make it great again,” added Hussein.
The first assignment of the incoming coach will be preparing Kenya for CHAN 2024, set to kick-off on February 1, 2025.
Firat was unable to qualify Kenya for the 2025 African Cup of Nations set to be played in Morocco, one of the irreducible minimums that was set for him.
