Nigeria a country in the West Africa has reported cases of Lassa fever disease.
According to Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), 20 deaths were recorded within one week spanning the 16 states.
Lassa fever is a disease caused by a virus and can be spread to human from infected individuals or rodents through contact or with contaminated food and objects.
Symptoms of lassa fever may include fever,headache and sore throat to more severe signs like bleeding from body parts.
Despite, NCDC putting preventive measures to curb the disease,the cases of lassa fever are still on the rise.
In the last one week the country recorded 109 cases of lassa fever.
In the past few weeks Nigeria has recorded 682 confirmed cases and 128 deaths with a case fatality rate of 18.8%.
The states affected by the disease include Ondo,Bauchi,Ebonyi,Benue,Kogi,Kaduna,Enugu, Taraba,Delta,Jigawa,Adamawa,Anambra,Rivers, Ogun and Oyo.
Majority of the affected people fall within the age group of 31 to 40 years with males being dominant.
