President of the Republic of Uganda Yoweri Museveni,has appointed his son as top commander of the military.
According to a military statement, Museveni’s son Gen.Muhoozi Kainerugaba was promoted to the new seat on Thursday.
He has recently been holding rallies in the country in violation of a law barring serving army officers from engaging in partisan politics.

President Museveni who took the presidential seat by force in 1986 and has been elected six times has not said when he will retire.
Many believe the military will take part in choosing his successor as president Museveni has no rivals.
Uganda will hold next presidential elections in 2026.

Gen Kainerugaba Muhoozi joined the army in late 1990s and his rise to the top of the armed forces has been controversial with many speculating its to prepare him for presidency.
According to reports,it appears transition is underway as Museveni who is 79 year-old serves what could be his last term in politics.
Gen Muhoozi before his new post was serving as a senior presidential advisor in charge of special operations after he was removed as infantry commander in 2022.
