The World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally will now take place for five days instead of just three, according to government plans.
President William Ruto gave the Ministry of Sports instructions to collaborate with the World Rally Championship (WRC) and the International Automobile Federation (FIA) to make this a reality.
“I think it is time to consider the request by drivers to return the rally to the five days it used to be,” said President Ruto.

The remarks were made by the Kenyan President Ruto on Thursday ( March 28) at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, during the flagging off of the WRC 2024 rally.
According to the President, the government is eager to take use of the WRC Safari Rally’s prospects to promote economic expansion.
He claimed that Kenya’s reputation and image would improve as a result of the rally’s widespread international media coverage.
He pointed out that this would draw in investors as well as visitors, bringing billions of shillings into the economy and creating more opportunities for a wide range of individuals, particularly those at the bottom of the economic pyramid.
“This will provide a major boost to our economy, increasing incomes for local businesses, and direct and indirect jobs, and attracting local and foreign tourism investment, catering, accommodation facilities and services,” he said
